Port Blair, Nov. 23: ‘Reformz’, an local NGO has raised the issue of uncontrolled price hike in vegetables and fruit trade apart from other food items like fish with the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration. In a letter to the Chief Secretary, the President of the NGO, Shri Arvind Rai Sharma apprised mentioned that while the A&N Administration has been doing good in controlling the COVID-19 pandemic in the islands, there are some issues which has gone unnoticed.

Sharma mentioned that the local vendors are charging exorbitant and unjustified price of all the local vegetables and also for the vegetables and fruit which are bought from mainland. In such a situation, it has become difficult for the poor people and the middle class people to afford buying vegetables and fruits.

Due to not ability of regular boat services, traders in the inter-islands are unable to bring the vegetables and the middle man who bring the vegetables up to the market are charging high wholesale rate, which needs to be checked.
