Port Blair, Jan 10: A large number of dead turtles have been found washed away in the shores of North Andaman. It was today afternoon that the locals found atleast found dozens of dead turtles on Kalipur Beach and Lamiya Bay beach. The matter was immediately informed to the Forest Department, which in turn sought the assistance of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Science.

Reports also indicate that the number of dead turtles till last seen were around 50 which is getting added up. It was also learnt that such an incident was also noticed in Karmatang Beach in Mayabunder.

Meanwhile, sources inform that the Animal Husbandry department has conducted a post mortem of the dead turtles. The liver of the turtles have turned black with clots in it. However, the post mortem report is being awaited.

The incident wherein a large number of turtles are seen dead has come as a shock for the locals. The dead turtles are now being buried by the Forest Department with the active support of the locals in North Andaman.
