Port Blair, Nov. 12: Referring the letter of Demand of Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma, President, PCC dt 26th October, 2012 for supply of uninterrupted supply of electricity to Gandhi Nagar, Smith Island and Jagannath Dera, Diglipur, Shri M Eappan, Assistant Engineer (PL), AN Electricity Deptt, Port Blair has mentioned that their department is always in the forefront for providing round the clock power supply to all residents of A&N Islands.
The work for providing 24 hrs uninterrupted power supply to Gandhi Nagar village through hiring DG sets has been completed on 7th Nov 12 and is running on trial basis. The work for providing 24 hrs uninterrupted power supply to Smith Island (Sagar Dweep) is in progress and expected to be completed within a week.
In respect of Jagannath Dera, Mr Eappan informed that the department has already started extension of T&D system from the main grid for 24 hrs power supply to the location but the work is held up for want of clearance from Forest Department to draw T&D lines through Forest area stretching around 4 kms for which proposal is already submitted to the Forest Department.
Sharma has thus decided to take up the issue of early clearance from the Forest with the concerned Department.
