I am happy to learn that like every year, the National Press Day is being celebrated by the Directorate of IP&T, A&N Administration on 16th November 2012. This day is celebrated to commemorate functioning of Press Council of India in 1966, an ethical and moral agency to ensure that the press in India maintains high standards of journalistic ethics expected from the fourth pillar of the democracy.

Due to passage of time, media's role has increased manifold in our country. From highlighting various ills, it is playing a vital role in helping various sections of society to know their rights and duties. I am happy that in our Islands, we have a responsible media catering to ensure public accountability and raising societal issues for their redressal.

I convey my greetings to media fraternity and appeal to practise constructive and investigative journalism for the overall development of our Islands.
