Port Blair, Oct. 30: The Member of Parliament, Shri Bishnu Pada Ray has raised objections regarding installation of Set Top Boxes by the Cable TV operators in the islands. In a letter to the Lt. Governor the MP said, “It is to be pointed out that the Cable T.V Operators in the Islands have now proposed to providr Set- up- Box for Digitalization of T.V Channel in these Islands. For this purpose, they claim from customers for payment of an amount of Rs. 2500/- against cost of the same”.

He further wrote, “It is understood that for launching such Set-up-Box, the Mainland Cable Operators Charge for an amount of Rs.500 – 600 at the maximum for each Set- up-Box. Similarly, against the monthly rent, at Mainland the Monthly rent is charged about Rs. 200 – 250 whereas in the Islands they proposed to charge to Rs. 350 per month as rent for the same”.

Bishnu Pada Ray, MP pointing out the abnormal rates of Set Top Boxes charged by the local cable operators, requested the intervention of the Lt. Governor into the matter. He also requested for a review in this issue so that reasonable rate may be considered as launching charges for the Set-up-Box giving the transportation expenditure etc. for the same.
