Car Nicobar, Dec. 3: Three days training programme organized by KVK Nicobar on “Post harvest and value addition technology of coconut and arecanut” from 22nd to 24th November, 2012 was inaugurated by Chief Guest Sri Simon Edmon, 1st Headman and in the presence of Guest of Honour Shri Sunny James Charles, 2nd Headman at Arong Village, Car Nicobar.

A total of 30 practicing farmers, consisting of 15 Nicobarese men and 15 women participated and got benefitted in different aspect i.e. significance of post harvest and value addition technology of coconut and arecanut. During the training programme coconut based different value added products like virgin coconut oil and coconut water squash was successfully prepared by the trainees. To improve the oil quality, good manufacturing practices and sanitation standard operating procedures for VCO production was described in the training programme. Coconut By- product like coconut charcoal and coconut shell handcrafting manufacturing process was also demonstrated during training programme.

The First Headman of Arong village in his address appreciated the efforts of KVK, Nicobar particularly Dr. Nagesh Ram, Programme Coordinator I/c & Shri. Chandrika Ram, SMS (Agril. Engg.) in imparting skills and knowledge to Nicobarese for their socioeconomic upliftment. He emphasised that this type of training will help the youth to generate income through various processing activities. The training was successfully concluded on 24th November, 2012. Earlier during the programme introductory lecture was delivered by Er Chandrika Ram, Course Facilitator.
