Port Blair, Nov. 19: The Lt. Governor, Lt Gen (Retd) Bhopinder Singh, PVSM, AVSM and the First Lady of the Islands, Smt Bhawanee Singh today invited the participants of the cultural troupe from the Islands, which held the audience spellbound through their mesmerizing performances during the Andaman and Nicobar Day celebration at Pragati Maidan, Lal Chowk, New Delhi on 15th November 2012, at a get-together function held at Raj Niwas in the afternoon. A vibrant evening of songs and dances by performers from the Islands depicting the rich cultural heritage & glorious history of the Islands and classical and modern songs and dances drew huge appreciation from the gathering in the National capital during the celebration.

The Lt. Governor praised the participants for presenting an impressive cultural programme in front of a large gathering in the National capital which was highly appreciated by the people. He further stated that by presenting an exciting cultural programme in the National capital, the children have given a fair idea about the Islands’ rich cultural heritage and history and also about the communal harmony prevalent in the Islands. He directed the Education department to chalk out programme to depute children of the islands to mainland for educational tours so that our children can interact with their counterpart in mainland. He further directed that from next year onwards efforts should be made to give opportunity to children living in N&M Andaman District and Nicobar District also to participate in the Andaman and Nicobar Day celebration in the National capital.

The Chief Secretary, participants of the cultural event and other senior officers of the Administration were present on the occasion.
