Port Blair, April 25: Observance of ‘Earth Hour’ is one of the simple methods devised in which households business and business houses are encouraged to turn-off their non essential lights and other power consuming appliances for one hour to raise awareness about the need to take action on climate change. The Coast Guard fraternity at Port Blair on 22nd April 2013 also joined hands to lend solidarity to this movement by shutting down power supply to their residential complex, Tatrakshak Vihar at Panipat Road. This awareness drive was undertaken by the Coast Guard Wives Welfare Association under the guidance of Smti Jyoti Murthy, President Tatrakshika (A&N).

The activity was a part of Earth Day which is celebrated annually on 22nd April. The aim of observance of Earth Day  is to bring mass awareness on environmental issues by imparting practical knowledge, tasks and easy to accomplish action to support a healthier environment to protect our mother earth.
