Port Blair, Oct. 25: The Lt Governor, Lt Gen (Retd) Bhopinder Singh, PVSM, AVSM has given his approval for implementation of alternate models for transfer of cash food subsidy to the Ration Card Holders of the A&N Islands. Accordingly, the Department of Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs (CS&CA) will credit the subsidy amount into the account of the beneficiary every month depending on the category of the card the beneficiary is holding instead of distribution of food grain and sugar to them. The amount of subsidy will be directly transferred to the respective beneficiaries through the Bank Account of the head of the family as notified in the Ration Card in advance.

The beneficiary will withdraw the money and use it to buy the food grains from the FPS dealer. Further the department will devise a suitable mechanism to monitor the subsidy provided by the Govt. for each beneficiary so that the subsidy amount is utilized in good spirit for the purpose for which the amount is transferred.

Further, all Ration Card Holders drawing ration items from Fair Price Shops (FPSs) and having Saving Bank Account in any of the Bank should furnish their account number to the Directorate of Civil Supplies, through their respective FPSs where his/her ration card is registered. Ration Card Holders who do not have any saving Account in any of the Bank are advised to open Bank Account, immediately to avail the benefit of this scheme of Govt. of India.

For the convenience of the ration card holders, the form for opening of account is made available through the Fair Price Shops. The bank account opening forms can be collected from the Fair Price Shops also. The filled in forms to avail the scheme may be submitted to the FPS and the FPS owners shall give the acknowledgment receipt of the same.
