National Awards for Empowerment of Persons with Disability; Entries Invited

Port Blair, Aug 18: The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, New Delhi is implementing the Scheme of National Awards for the Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities. This year too, National awards for the Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities shall be conferred on the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities i.e. on 3rd December, 2019 in the various categories viz. Best employee/Self-employed with Disabilities, Best Employer and placement Officer or Agency, Best Individual and institution working for the cause of persons with Disabilities, Role Model, Best Applied Research/Innovation or Product Development aimed at improving the life of persons with Disabilities, Outstanding work in the creation of Barrier-free Environment for the persons with Disabilities, Best District in providing rehabilitation service, Best State Channelizing Agency of the National Handicapped Finance and Development Corporation, Outstanding Creative Adult persons with Disabilities, Best creative child with Disabilities, Best Braille Press, Best Accessible Website, Best State in promoting empowerment of persons with Disabilities and implementation of Accessible India Campaign, Best Sportsperson with Disability. 

Applications in the prescribed format (which is available in advertisement hosted on the website www.disabilitiyaffairs.gov.in) should be submitted to the Directorate of Social Welfare by August 26, 2019, so as to forward to the Ministry by 30th August 2019 accompanied by two passport sized photograph (in the case of individuals) and bio-data along with summary of achievements and documents in support thereof, Draft citation (not exceeding one page).

YCCI Organises Chess Tournament on the Occasion of International Youth Day

Port Blair, Aug 18: TheYouth Chamber of Commerce & Industry organised a Chess Tournament for the Youth to commemorate “International Youth Day” at TSG Emerald View, Phoenix Bay.

Youth was encouraged to embrace the sport and enlightened about the ill effects of drugs and alcohol by President YCCI, Shri Tanveer Singh.

Cash Prizes were distributed across many categories starting from kids to seniors felicitating the winners on their achievement.

YCCI has actively been involved in encouraging the sport and has identified potential players who could represent Andaman Islands in the days to come.

Girl Students of Bhandari Education Society (Maharashtra) Felicitate Soldiers on The Occasion Of Raksha Bandhan

Port Blair, Aug 18: The girl students of Bhandari Education Society Junior College, Malvan, Maharashtra have sent handmade ‘Rakhis’ as a mark of their love and affection for the personnel of Defence Forces serving in remote areas including Andaman and Nicobar Command. The students have also sent poetries written by them praising the bravery of Indian soldiers. 

The Rakhis were tied on the wrists of the soldiers of the Andaman Nicobar Command on behalf of the students in a solemn ceremony held on 15th of August 2019. The students have also sent an emotional message and poems conveying their gratitude to their ‘brothers’ who “perform the sacred duty of serving the nation by protecting its borders and keeping their ‘sisters’ secure inspite of not being related by blood”.
