DM Savitri Honoured

Port Blair, Aug 19: The renowned poetress and writer of Andaman & Nicobar, Smti DM Savitri has been recently honoured with ‘Hindi Bhasha Bhushan Ki Sarvoch Mandh Upadhi’ by Sree Nath Dwar, Rajasthan.

Apart from this, she has also been bestowed with another Award “Maha Devi Varma Smrity Rashtriya Kavya Alankar” by Sahitya Sansthan in collaboration with Basha Abhyan Shala, Jivaji University, Gwalior for her literary works. On this occasion her upanyas ‘Lacho’ was also released.

Sailing of MV Swaraj Dweep Cancelled

Port Blair, Aug 19: Due to technical reasons, the scheduled sailing of MV Swaraj Dweep for Vizag from Port Blair on 22.08.2019 (Thus) at 1600 Hrs and return to Port Blair from Vizag on 27.08.2019 (Tue) at  1600 Hrs  (under voyage No. 973 & 974 respectively) has been cancelled.   

Passenger holding the tickets of the above sailings are hereby advised to cancel their tickets and get full refunded from STARS Ticketing Counter & CSC’s.

Independence Day Celebrated at Car Nicobar

Dr. Monica Priyadarshini Releases ITDP Log, Felicitates Toppers of AISSCE & AISSE

Car Nicobar, Aug 18: The73rdIndependence Day was celebrated at Car Nicobar. The main function was held at Bishop John Richardson Stadium, Tamaloo, in which the Deputy Commissioner, Nicobar District, Dr. Monica Priyadarshini hoisted the National Flag. Prior to the flag hoisting, homage was paid by the Deputy Commissioner Nicobar, to the Father of the Nation at Gandhi Chowk, Malacca.

Speaking on the occasion, the DC highlighted the various projects and programmes that have been and are being implemented by the District Administration, Car Nicobar through various departments and agencies. She also launched the ITDP Logo on the occasion.  During the function, group dances and songs on patriotic theme were performed by school children and various sports activities were organized. The stage was decorated fully in traditional Nicobarese style.      

The Deputy Commissioner’s Commendation Certificate were awarded to the officers and officials working in various departments in Nicobar District in recognition of the good work done and dedication shown by them towards their duties and responsibilities in an efficient manner. During the function toppers of the AISSCE and AISSE for the academic year 2018-19 were felicitated.  

The chief guest inaugurated the Handicraft Mela and Food Festival organized by Self-Help Groups and Anganwadi workers at Priyadarshini Auditorium, Tamaloo. The Children Park at Big Lapathy village, constructed under ITDP was also inaugurated in the presences of Tribal leaders. 

In the evening inter-village Song and Inter-school dance competitions were organized at BJR stadium, Car Nicobar and prizes were distributed to winners by the Deputy Commissioner, Nicobar District.
