Awareness programme on Drug Abuse by Humane Touch

Port Blair, Aug 18: Humane Touch in association with Directorate of Education has initiated an awareness campaign on alcoholism and drug abuse in educational institutions based in Ferrargunj Tehsil.

Drug related issues have reached an alarming rate in the last few years in our islands gripping its clutches among youth and students.

Drug related crimes are reported in the media frequently. These drugs eventually end up in the hands of school children which is dangerous.To curb this menace, Humane Touch initiated this campaign.

In the initial phase, Humane Touch organised an awareness camp at GSSS Wimberlygunj.

The Principal, GSSS W Gunj presided as chief guest on this occasion and highlighted the need for such awareness programmes among the students community on regular intervals.

Dr.Bindu Rajesh, Medical Officer PHC WimberlyGunjbriefed  the students about the ill effects and measures to keep away from drug addiction and how  to deal with such situations in the schools as well as society.

PK Moosa, Executive Member, Humane Touch also interacted with the students and dwelled upon  important aspects of drug addiction.

Altogether 150 students participated. 

Earlier, Shri. A. Abdul Aziz welcomed the gathering and shed light on various activities conducted by the organisation. He also highlighted the burning issue of drug abuse. The programme  concluded with vote of thanks proposed by P K Moosa, Executive Member, Humane Touch.

Clinical Research Unit for Homoeopathy Celebrates 73rd Independence Day

Port Blair, Aug 18: As a part of nationwide celebrations of 73rd Independence Day, Officers and staff members of Clinical Research Unit (Homoeopathy), Port Blair observed the day with full vigour on 15 August 2019. The celebrations involved flag hoisting by the Officer-In-Charge Dr.Uttam Singh, Research Officer (H), Scientist-1. It was followed by National Anthem and National Song. Dr.Jiji Paul, Junior Research Fellow delivered an enthusiastic speech on India Independence and its development thereafter.

Concluding the function, Officer-In-Charge recited a poetry encouraging all members to realize their moral responsibilities and duties for curbing increasing evil practices in the society. He also stressed on inculcating hygienic measures to make a healthy and clean India for understanding the real essence of freedom.

Volleyball Tournament Organised at Kamorta

Port Blair, Aug 18: Shri VK Jindal Asst. Commissioner along with Shri Aslam Majid 1st captain Kamorta successfully organized a volleyball tournament of ladies and gents with an aim to spread and promote the cause of Beti Padao Beti Bachao. In this Tournament all villages of Kamorta and Nancowrie participated. Among the ladies teams, Kamorta team was the winner while the Runners up was Balubasthi. In  the gents Pilpillow was winner while Kakana was the runners up.
