Port Blair, Nov. 1: A meeting was conveyed by the Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman with the Cable Operators and area Police authorities today to discuss the issue of installation of Set Top Box, charging of monthly rent, non-airing of some channels and other grievances regarding the services of cable network.  It was clarified by the Cable Operators that installation of Set Top Box is not mandatory in this island at present as the same is to be implemented in the year of 2014, however, Cable Operators submitted that they are switching over to digital system slowly and gradually so that they can achieve the target of digitization by 1st of November 2014.

Following the discussion, the Deputy Commissioner (SA) directed the Cable Operators to resume the services of all the previous channels at-once, not to compel the connection holder for installation of Set Top Box, to provide option to the consumer of purchase of Set Top Box in lower price range also, to ensure improvement in quality of cable service, to create awareness among general public about the concept of Set Top Box, fees structure, reasons of difference in price than the mainland and other related information through news papers apart from through their channels. They were also directed to submit all such clarifications to District Administration.

The general public is hereby informed that installation of Set Top Box is not mandatory in this island at present and Cable Operators cannot force to purchase the same accordingly.
