Array of popular Hindi and regional films to be screened

                 

Port Blair, Nov. 2: The Lt Governor, Lt Gen (Retd) Bhopinder Singh, PVSM, AVSM today inaugurated the 3-day Centenary Celebration of Film Festival-2012, organized by the Directorate of IP&T, A&N Administration in collaboration with the Directorate of Film Festivals & National Film Archives, India under Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, New Delhi, in BRAIT auditorium, Pahargoan. The Lt Governor lighted the ceremonial lamp in the presence of First Lady of these Islands, Smt Bhawanee Singh and declared the film festival open. The Lt Governor and the First Lady also witnessed a photo exhibition in the premises of the auditorium marking the centenary celebration of Indian films.

In his brief address on the occasion, the Lt Governor appreciated that the film festival has been organized in the Islands. This will give opportunity to the people of these Islands to watch popular Hindi and regional languages films. He further stated that our endeavour will be to screen the films in other Islands also so that the people there can also enjoy the films. A silent film ‘Raja Harishchandra’ directed and produced by Marathi icon Dadasaheb Phalke in 1913 was also screened on the occasion.  

During the Centenary Celebration of the film festival, an array of classical and commercially popular films from Hindi and other regional languages will be screened in four venues i.e. BRAIT auditorium, Pahargoan, PBMC auditorium, Mohanpura, ASI auditorium (Near Directorate of IP&T) and Multipurpose Hall of ALHW. This time, the people of the Islands would be able to watch popular old as well as recent hit films like Fashion, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and Ishquiya during the film festival. The recently released Oscar-nominated film ‘Barfi’ will be the movie to watch. Besides Hindi films, some of the popular regional films like Kanathil Muthamital in Tamil by renowned film maker Mani Ratnam, Urumi in Malayalam, Virodi in Telugu and Bengali film-Kabuliwala based on the story of iconic Nobel-laureate Rabindra Nath Tagore will be screened during the fest.

Earlier, welcoming the chief guest and others, the Secretary (IP&T), Shri Satish Mathur informed that during the 3-day film festival a number of popular films of different times in Hindi and other regional languages will be screened in four venues in the city so that people from different linguistic segments can enjoy the event with their family and friends. The inaugural function concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by the Director (IP&T), Shri Amit Satija.

Entry to all the four venues of the film festival is free for all. The entry passes can be collected from the counter of IP&T on first come first served basis.
