Hut Bay, Dec. 18: The remote island Little Andaman is fully prepared to host the first ever mega Bharat Nirman Public information Campaign from 19th of this month. The islands Lt Governor Lt General Bhopinder Singh will inaugurate this five day long campaign tomorrow at 11 am.  The Islands Chief Secretary, Anand Prakash will be the guest of honour.

In the sprawling school ground at Hut Bay in Little Andaman witnessed hectic preparations for the PIC, which is aimed at empowering the people with the information on various development programmes and welfare schemes meant for them.  About 35 departments and government and non-governmental agencies will put up their exhibitions at the venue to highlight the achievements made under various central flag ship programmes, besides the strides developments witnessed in different fields in the recent years. 

During this five day long campaign, various programmes including seminars, workshops, awareness programmes, rural sports, Bharat Nirman contests and rally will be held in different villages of Little Andaman.

The major attraction of the festival is that the Rural film festival to mark the centenary celebration of Indian cinema being organized for the first time in the remote island in association with Directorate film festival. The film festival opens with the RTI Anthem, followed by the screening of first Indian silent movie, Raja Harischandra by the veteran film maker Dada Saheb Phalke.  A  recent hit film in Hindi Zindagi Na Milegi Tubara will also be screened. This Little Andaman Film festival assumes more significance in view of the fact that there is not even a single cinema hall in the entire group of islands.The Chairman of Inter Media Publicity coordination committee will inaugurate the film festival at ALHW auditorium

This mega campaign begins with the Bharat Nirman Rally will be flagged off by Subha Gupta, Director of Field Publicity, a media unit of Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Kolkta at 6.30 am tomorrow. As part of the campaign, Bicycle race for men and women, Bharat Nirman Marathon with the theme spread the awareness of central flag ship programmes across the islands, rural sports, health camps, farmers meet, fisher men meet will be held in different venues.

As part of the campaign, a workshop on Right to information and transparency in Public administration will be held at ALHW hall on 21st of this month, while the seminar on the role of SHGs in women empowerment will be organize at Acani Church hall on 22nd of this month. Another seminar on Power to the people at grass roots will be held at RK Pur community hall on the last day of the campaign.

This  campaign evokes much expectations among the local populace, as it is the first ever campaign being jointly organized by the Press Information Bureau and Andaman and Nicobar administration in association with the Central Media Units including All India Radio, Doordarshan and Directorate of Field Publicity, Directorate of Film Festival and Directorate of Field Publicity.

The Nodal officer of the PIC , Dhanasekaran informed that the Bharat Nirman Programme envisages provision of services to the people at their door steps. This five day campaign in the remote island of Little Andaman is the part of the innovative media strategy developed by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting towards this direction.
