Basket ball Camp Concludes at Car Nicobar, DC appreciates students for their Interest in the game

                 

Car Nicobar, Dec. 18: The 10 days long Basket ball camp for the students and youth of Car Nicobar concluded today at Bishop John Richardson Stadium. An exhibition match was played on the occasion in which the young players displayed their skills effectively. The performance of the young trainees didn’t seem that they are new to the game. Every bit of the moment was enjoyed by the spectators and Carnic-A defeated Carnic-B by 35-33.

The Chief Guest on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner of Nicobar district, Shri P. Jawahar in his address lauded the players for their interest shown in learning the game in the camp. He said that the Children of this part of the Islands are equally talented in Basket ball too. He hoped that the young talented players will show their skills in the State Level Tournament also and bring laurels.

Jawahar also felt the need of conducting such camps in the other Islands like Kamorta and Campbell Bay. He appreciated the Department of Sports and Education for conducting such camps in rural areas effectively and successfully. 

Earlier welcoming the Guests, the Education Officer Mrs Sangeeta Chand said that the camp was conducted for the Children of Malacca, Lapathy, Mus, Tamaloo and Tapoiming schools but the village youth were also extended this facility of specialized coaching given by the Basket ball Coach from the Netaji Stadium, Shri G. Nagesh. She said that the children showed great interest in learning the game and to maintain the continuity and rhythm of the students, it is proposed to provide the basic facilities to all the Senior Secondary Schools, so that students can practise Basket Ball at their school itself.

After the exciting exhibition match between the Carnic-A and Carnic- B teams, the Chief Guest distributed the basket ball equipments including pole, ring, net and ball to the Heads of Tamaloo, Malacca, Lapathy and Mus Schools. Joyfill was declared the Young Promising Player of the Camp. The Players of both teams were also felicitated.

Proposing the Vote of Thanks, the Block Sports Officer Mr. Birendra Pradhan informed that seeing the interest of the youth for Basket ball, the game is being included in the list of the games defined under the Panchayat Yuva Kreeda aur Khel Abhiyan (PYKKA) in this district. He said that such types of camps of other games also will be organized in this zone. Around 120 students below 14 years of age have benefited from this Camp.
