Port Blair, Dec. 16: The President, PCC Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma has recently called on Shri Bimal Sinha, Chief Engineer and Administrator, Andaman and Lakshadweep Harbour Works and appreciated the endeavor of his organization in development port related infrastructural facilities in various islands of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

During the course of discussion Sharma requested the Chief Engineer for speedy construction of wharves/ jetties at Katchal, Chowra, and Teressa Islands which were demolished during the tsunami of 2004, early operation of newly constructed  deep water wharf at Campbell Bay and procurement of Tugs for facilitating berthing of Mainland bound passenger Ships at inter island Ports such as Mayabunder, Hutbay and Campbell Bay etc where deep water wharf exists.

He expressed that early implementation of these projects will ease out the difficulties presently being faced by the local residents and will also open up trade, education and other facilities for the islanders. Besides other issues, he also enquired about the status of the construction of dry dock at  Shore Point capable of docking big ships like MV Swaraj Dweep, plan for construction of approach road leading to the finger jetties being constructed at Navy Bay in Junglighat area, plan of  action for construction of vehicle ferry jetties at Mitta Khadi and Junglighat, clearing of creek leading from Mayabunder to Kalighat in Diglipur for resumption of  ferry service which has been stalled since occurrence of Tsunami, construction of Jetty at Gandhi Nagar in Campbell Bay.

The Chief Engineer and Administrator informed that most of the projects find its place either under Central sector plan schemes or State sector plan schemes and the projects/ works which are in progress will be accomplished in earliest possible time frame.
