Port Blair, Sept. 11:  The Andaman and Nicobar Forest Department observed “The National Forest Martyrs’ Day” on 11/09/2018 at JNRM Football Ground to commemorate Forest Officials who had laid down their lives to protect forests and wildlife.

The Forest Department led by Shri. Tarun Coomar, IFS, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests & Principal Secretary (Environment & Forests), Andaman and Nicobar Islands, garlanded the martyr’s memorial and paid floral tributes to the martyrs’, recalling their contribution and sacrifices made in the line of duty. A two minute silence was observed in the memory of the green soldiers.

In his message the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests said that about 27 brave Forest Department personnel lost their lives between 1983 to 2017 either in encounter with Jarawas, wildlife, or protection duties while protecting the forests and wildlife resources. In his speech, he asked the staffs of Forest Department to emulate the spirit of the martyrs’ and re-dedicate themselves in protecting forests in these emerald islands.

As a part of Forest Martyrs’ Day Celebration, the Wildlife Division is organizing 03rd Forest Martyrs’ Rolling Trophy League-cum-Knockout Tournament from 11/09/2018 to 06/10/2018.

In the inaugural match played between United Sporting Club, Junglighat Vs Modern Village Football Club, Kanyapuram, South Andaman. The United Sporting Club, Junglighat wins the opening match with 4-0 net. Shri. Ravindra of United Sporting Club, Junglighat was judged as Man of the Match. 

The next match will be played on 15/09/2018 at JNRM Football Ground and will be played between Assam Rifle vs Wimblerlygunj Zone on 07.00 AM, second match between C.T. Brothers vs Extra-XI on 02.00 PM and third match between Predators vs RYC.
