Port Blair, Sept. 13: Responding to the demands of four villagers i.e. Laxmanpur, Bakultala, Urmilapur & Kalsi who are facing grate difficulties due to non availability of proper road connectivity since their settlement of 1950, Bishnu Pada Ray, the Member of Parliament, A&N Islands had took up the matter with the Ministry of Road Transport & Highway, GoI, New Delhi during December 2017 for sanction of fund under Central Road Fund (CRF) for construction of road including culverts and bridges.

Accordingly, the APWD, prepared the estimations and submitted to the Ministry during April 2018 and upon continuous persuasion by the MP, the Ministry of Road Transport & Highway has sanctioned Rs.24.25 Cr. under CRF fund for "C/o road form km 1.00 to km 5.706 (4.706 kms) including Bridges and culverts from Chitta Bairagi house to Gopal Sikdar house to connect 4 villages (Laxmanpur, Bakultala, Urmilapur & Kalsi) Rangat Tehsil, N&M Andaman.

The sanction order obtained from MoRTH has already been communicated to CE, APWD on 04.09.2018 for taking further course of action for NIT at the earliest as possible. 

The amount Rs.24.25 Cr. now sanctioned for the above said road and bridges under Urmilapur Gram Panchayat, Rangat Tehsil, is the highest amount than the amount sanctioned earlier for individual bridges/roads at various locations in S/Andaman and North & Middle Andaman by the MoRTH under Central Road Fund,
