Minister to inaugurate ‘Swachhata Hi Sewa’ & Atal Centre for Ocean Science & Technology for Islands

Port Blair, Sept 14: The Union Minister of Science & Technology, Earth Science, Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Dr. Harsh Vardhan will be arriving here tomorrow (Sept. 15) on a day’s visit to the Islands. Soon after arrival, the Minister will visit National Memorial Cellular Jail and lay a wreath at the Martyr’s Column.

Thereafter, the Minister will inaugurate ‘Swachhata hi Sewa’ campaign, organized in the Islands by the Port Blair Municipal Council, at Gandhi Statue premises, Aberdeen Bazaar at 10.45 am. The Minister will administer the ‘Swachhata hi Sewa’ pledge to the gathering and flag off the campaign. He will also participate in the ‘Swachhata Abhiyan’ to be carried out at Rathnam Market. The Lt. Governor, A&N Islands, Admiral DK Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd.) will also be present on this occasion. 

Later, the Minister will inaugurate the Atal Centre for Ocean Science and Technology for Islands (ACOSTI) at a function to be held at Dollygunj tomorrow at 11.30 am. The Lt. Governor, A&N Islands, Admiral DK Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd.) will preside over the function. The Member of Parliament, Shri Bishnu Pada Ray, Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences, GoI, Dr. M. Rajeevan, the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Shri Chetan B. Sanghi, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences, GoI, Dr. Vipin Chandra and Director, NIOT, Dr. M.A Atmanand will also be present on this occasion.
