Port Blair, Sept. 19: The Department of Home Science, Zoology and Chemistry of JNRM organised a one day workshop on Career Prospects for the students of JNRM on 19th September 2018 in Auditorium. The workshop was inaugurated by lighting the lamp by the dignitaries. Speaking on the occasion Dr N Francis Xavier, Principal, JNRM exhorted the students to adopt the best and advanced scenario of research which is being practiced in Gandhigram Rural University.
Dr S Meenakshi, Professor & Head, Department of Chemistry, Gandhigram Rural Institute informed the students about the various avenues available for their career development in addition to the regular and conventional courses. The scholarships are plenty to pursue higher studies from under graduation to PDF level. Industry Academic Collaboration tie-up will provide a platform for the budding researcher to develop model and to go for Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and for patent and protype, she said.
Dr. M. Seethalakshmi, Professor & Dean, School of Agriculture and Animal Sciences spoke about the scope of dairy sector in these Islands. Dairy processing and by dairy by-products like probiotic curd, chocolate making, quality control officer in various dairy industries are also the ever green sector for continuous employment opportunities. Self employment opportunities are ample in the dairy sector, she added.
Dr K S Pushpa, Professor of Home Science, spoke in detail about evolvement of Home Science in India. The all five branches of Home Science is dynamic sector for gainful self employment in addition to the chances of getting absorbed in Industry sector. Extension and outreach programmes are need to be developed in JNRM for better career prospects of the students in Community and Rural Development. Shri K Venkatesan, Assistant Professor & HoD Home Science spoke on the importance of faculty and student exchange programme between Gandhigram Rural Institute and JNRM. Teaching, Research and Extension should go hand in hand and exchange of information from institute to institute, he added.
Dr H K Sharma, Associate Professor & Head, Department of Chemistry welcomed the gathering while Shri J Goutham, Assistant Professor & Head, Department of Zoology and Coordinator of the programme proposed vote of thanks and highlighted the biodiversity of Andaman and its scope in employment. The all Central Government Research Institutes should work with convergence, he opined. Ms Reshma of Ist B.Sc Home Science moderated the programme.
