Port Blair, Sept. 24: Just a day before stepping down as the Chairperson of the Port Blair Municipal Council, Indra Pal Singh, Councillor, Ward No. 7 was found to be involved in abduction, wrongful confinement, voluntarily committing hurt and for rioting. The Councillor has been arrested along with 10 others, known to be his supporters and accomplices in crime.

According to Police sources, a boy named Joga Rao, R/o of Prem Nagar (Murdakhari area) was seen leaning on the car of IP Singh on 19th Sept. 2018 during the Ganesh Puja visarjan. Annoyed with this, the brother–in-law of IP Singh manhandled the boy and threatened him for consequences.

The issue later took a wrong direction, when the family members of Joga Rao taking the matter seriously, called IP Singh to the Puja Committee to discuss it out as the Councillor is also the President of the Puja Committee. Sources inform that IP Singh never turned up and instead an NCFIR was registered by both the parties at PS Aberdeen.

The matter went worse on 23rd Sept. 2018 when, IP Singh along with 10 others abducted Joga Rao and beat him after having tied to a pole. It is also learnt that Bhawani, 16 years, sister of Joga Rao tried to stop but the gang had misbehaved with the minor girl too. Following this, the relatives of Joga Rao gheraoed IP Singh’s residence and demanded immediate arrest of the Councillor. Later IP Singh and his 10 accomplices were arrested and produced before the Judicial Magistrate and later sent to 12 days Judicial Custody.

Though IP Singh and his accomplices were sent on Judicial Remand, the family and supporters of Joga Rao had gheraoed the Police Station Aberdeen demanding arrest of IP Singh’s wife for being involved in the incident. She was later arrested today after recording her statement and was released on bail from the Hon’ble Court.

Meanwhile, the Ex-Chairperson PBMC, IP Singh was suspended from the post of Vice President, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha by the BJP Party President, Vishal Jolly following the incident yesterday. As an update, the Party President has also expelled him from the primary membership of BJP with immediate effect following the arrest of IP Singh.
