Port Blair, Nov. 14: The 65th All India Cooperative Week Celebration 2018  with the organised by A&N State Cooperative Union in association with Cooperative Department, Administration; cooperative institutions of A&N, Field Project of NCUI, NABARD was inaugurated today  by Shri. Udit Prakash Rai, IAS, Secretary (coop), A&N Administration by hoisting the Cooperative flag at the premises of A&N State Cooperative Union office, Teylerabad in the presence of Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, Chairman ,Board of Directors ANSCU; Directors and officials of Apex. Central and Primary level Cooperatives, SHG members and youth. The Chief guest garlanded the portrait of Late. Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India who convulsed India in to cooperatives.

While addressing the huge gathering assembled, the chief Guest stressed the importance of Cooperative movement in the economy of A&N Islands and the nation as well. He said, in order to make the cooperatives more vibrant and strong, the Administration has started  many programmes/schemes. Further, the Chief Guest said  a survey has been conducted by support of National Cooperative  Development Corporation (NCDC), New Delhi to identify the  scope and potential  sector cooperatives for further development. The NCDC has submitted its  report to the Administration in which the sectors like fisheries and agriculture showed more avenues for development and; he said the Administration is working on it.

The Chief Guest appreciated Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma whose leadership created the momentum of Cooperative Development in A&N Islands. The Participation of huge gathering in the function showed itself the importance of Cooperative movement. The Chief Guest also appreciated the strength of SHG women  who has taken up innovative activities for livelihood.

Earlier, While welcoming the Chief Guest and the gathering, Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, Chairman, A&N State Cooperative Union briefed the activities taken up by the Union for Cooperative development. He said ,in order to bring the poor under cooperative fold as well as to generate income for livelihood, the Union imparting skill development training on Computer, tailoring and fashion designing and beautician courses stretching from Diglipur to  Nicobar in which thousands of people got the training and; today they themselves find their livelihood by setting up their small business enterprises. The Chairman further said, the Union has launched many programmes for Cooperative development.

The first day, 14th November 2018 earmarked as “ Cooperative Marketing, Processing and Storage”. A seminar on this subject was organized in the conference hall Of A&N Sate Cooperative Union.Dr. Nagesh Ram, Senior Scientist & Incharge, KVK- CIARI and Shri. Suresh Babu, Incharge, Rajiv Gandhi Cooperative Training Centre were the resource persons to speak on the subject. Bothe the speakers dealt on each and every aspect of cooperative marketing, Processing and storage and how cooperative marketing play the role in rural development. 

The function was concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by shri. Anant Rao, General Secretary, A&N State Cooperative Union.
