Port Blair, Nov. 15: The extended Central Executive Committee meeting of the Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association, A&N Islands held on 10th November, 2018 at Port Blair had decided to step-up its campaign against the National Pension Scheme (NPS). The meeting noted with concern that unrest among the NPS employees is rising day by day. Those NPS employees who retired from service during the period from 2015 to 2018 after completing more than ten years of service are getting a paltry sum of Rs.2,000/- to Rs.3,000/- only as monthly annuity pension. Under no circumstances a pensioner and his family can live with this meager pension. Under the Old Pension Scheme, an employee who completed minimum ten years of service is eligible for 50% of last pay drawn plus Dearness Allowance thereon provided that the basic pension is not less than Rs.9,000/-. Whereas it is experienced that the New Pension Scheme in effect is equal to ‘No Pension Scheme’.

The meeting decided to organize a convention of NPS employees on 8th December, 2018 at Port Blair. The Association will organize a territory   campaign against NPS prior to the convention.

Meanwhile, the Confederation of Central Govt. Employees & Workers, New Delhi has postponed the proposed National Strike on 15th November, 2018 to 8th & 9th January, 2019 (two days’ strike) jointly with central trade unions like CITU, INTUC etc. The extended Central Executive Committee of Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association has decided to mobilize Govt. employees and workers to organize massive agitations on 8th & 9th January, 2019, ‘Scrap NPS and restore OPS’ is the first demand of the Confederation in its 10-point Charter of Demands submitted to the Govt. of India.
