Port Blair, Jan 21: The Andaman & Nicobar State Cooperative Bank has inaugurated its’ Modernised Branch at Billiground on 16th January, 2019 at 5.00 pm.
Shri Awanish Kumar, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, North and Middle Andaman was the chief guest on the occasion. The programme was also attended by Shri. Bhagat Singh, Chairman, Smt. Laxmi Singh, Shri. K Murugan, Managing Director of the bank, Shri. Uttam Mandal, Pradhan, Hari Nagar Panchayat, Shri. Jayanto Nag, Pradhan, Swadesh Nagar, Smt. Sebestina, Pradhan Basantipur, Senior Officials of the District Administration, Bank officials, a large gathering of SHG members, PACS and local residents of the area.
Shri. K Murugan, Managing Director (MD) welcomed the Chief Guest and all the dignitaries present on the occasion. In his inaugural he informed that the Billiground branch since its inception in the year 1982 caters to a total of over 10,000 customers with more than 200 SHG groups. The total business of the branch has crossed a milestone of Rs. 40.00 Crore. He further informed the gathering that the Modernised branch has got an exclusive counter for the Senior Citizen, Women customers, Physically Challenged persons, Express Counter and a dedicated Enquiry & Public Grievance counter. He further added that the bank has an introduced a Baby Nursing Room for the women customers for their infants.
The Chief Guest Shri Awanish Kumar, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, North and Middle Andaman along with other dignitaries unveiled the plaque and inaugurated the Modernised branch building of Billiground branch. Smt. Laxmi Singh inaugurated the Baby Nursing Room in presence of the PRI members for the benefit of women customers of the bank.
Shri. Uttam Mandal, Pradhan, Harinagar Panchayat in his address appreciated the Management of the Bank in modernising the bank with ATM Withdrawal and Deposit machine and a bucket of new and unique services. Shri. Jayanto Nag, Pradhan, Swadesh Nagar also spoke on the occasion and requested the management of the bank to provide ATM services at Swadesh Nagar Panchayat. Smt. Sebestina, Pradhan, Basantipur Panchayat also spoke on the occasion and requested the management of the bank to provide banking services at Basantipur Panchayat.
Shri. Bhagat Singh, Chairman in his address urged all the people present on the occasion to open more accounts with the bank and take the benefits of ATM services of the bank, which will be installed very shortly. He also highlighted that the Billiground branch is rendering banking services to the entire village of Swadeshnagar, Harinagar and Basantipur Panchayat. The Chairman also highlighted the various schemes of NABARD like Mobile Demo Van and Govt. Sponsored schemes to the gathering. He further informed that possibility will be explored for the purpose of opening of ATM. The Chairman highlighted that out of four Panchayats at Billiground and surrounding area, 02 no. Panchayats have bank.

Bank is the lifeline of the people of this Island” which is rendering banking services to the remotest Chowra Island as well. In his address, he profoundly appreciated the Management of the Bank in modernising the bank with an ATM Withdrawal and Deposit machine, which will be installed soon and a branch with a bucket of new and unique services, which is unique and been introduced for the first time. He has urged all the people present on the occasion to strive and work had with dedication and sincerity for a better living. He furtherhighlighted that there are tremendous scope of work for people to empower themselves and become self-independent by availing the schemes of the bank. He further urged all the Self Help Group members present on the occasion to come forward and avail credit facility from the bank for the improvement of socio-economic conditions.
