Port Blair, Jan 22: Admiral Sunil Lanba, PVSM, AVSM, ADC, Chairman, Chiefs of Staff Committee (COSC) and Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) and Mrs Reena Lanba, President Naval Wives Welfare Association (NWWA) is on a three day visit to Andaman Nicobar Islands from 23 Jan to 25 Jan 19. During the visit, the Chief of Naval Staff will be commissioning INS Kohassa, at Naval Air Station Shibpur,located in the northern most part of the Andaman Nicobar Islands on 24 Jan 19. On arrival at Port Blair he will be given an update on the operational and infrastructure aspects of the Andaman and Nicobar Command (ANC) on 23 Jan 2019. The Chief of the Naval Staff, will also call on Admiral DK Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd), Lieutenant Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. 

An Alumnus of National Defence Academy Khadkwasla, the Admiral was commissioned in to Indian Navy in 01 Jan 1978 and is a graduate of the Defence Service Staff College, Wellington, College of Defence Management, Secundrabad and Royal Collage of Defence Studies, London. In his distinguished Defence career spanning 40 years, the Navigation and Direction specialist has served as the Navigation and Operations Officer onboard various ships in both the Eastern and Western Fleets. He has also held numerous training positions in prestigious institutes like the National Defence Academy Khadkwasla, College of Defence Management Secundrabad and has been the Commandant of the National Defence College, New Delhi. Other distinguished appointments held by the Admiral include, Flag Operations Officer of the Western Fleet, Flag Officer Commanding Maharashtra and Gujarat Naval Area (FOMAG), Chief of Staff, Southern Naval Command and Eastern Naval Command, Flag Officer Commander-in- Chief of the Southern and Western Naval Commands, and the Vice Chief of Naval Staff from 02 Jun 2014 to 30 March 2015. After taking charge as the Chief of the Naval Staff on 31 May 2016, he took over as the Chairman of the Chief of Staff Committee (CoSC) from outgoing Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha on 29 Dec 2016.
