Port Blair, Feb 14: The Department of Home Science, JNRM in collaboration with the Red Ribbon Club and Andaman and Nicobar AIDS Control Society (ANACS) Port Blair organised an Elocution Competition for the students on the Role of Students in Prevention and Control of AHIV / AIDS in Rural areas. Around 26 students of B.Sc Home Science, BCA, B.Sc Zoology and B.A Tamil took part in the competition.

While giving away the prizes to the winners Dr J S Manhas, Principal, JNRM spoke in detail about the important role of students in making AIDS free society by creating awareness. For participating in this competition, the students like you referred various book materials and internet references to acquaint yourself to compete in this competition and that is the way this competition created awareness among you in vice versa for the society, he said.

Shri Gireesh Kumar, Assistant Director (Mainstream), ANACS informed the gathering about the various activities of ANACS and RRC and the paradigm change that took place with the help the student volunteers of Home Science in rural areas. He requested the students to be partner with ANACS for this noble cause.

Shri. K.Venkatesan, HoD Home Science and Nodal Officer for RRC, JNRM described the need to be alert in knowing this disease and its prevention. To create awareness suitable IEC materials in various languages should be served alongwith presentation of skit and drama, he added. 

Dr Rekha Kumari and Smt Nitika Garhia, Resource Persons of Home Science Department served as Jury Members.  The 1st prize won by Ms. Pooja Gaikwad of B.Sc Zoology, IInd Ms.Sumi Biswas of BCA, IIIrd Ms.R.S.Reshma of B.Sc Home Science IVth Ms.Zeenath Fathima of B.Sc Home Science and Vth by Ms.Anitha of B.A Tamil.
