Port Blair, Feb 18: A & N Police in collaboration with CDAC, Hyderabad is observing Cybercrime Awareness week from 18th to 22nd Feb., 2019 in A&N Islands. The inaugural function for this occasion was held at the Auditorium, DBRAIT, Pahargaon on 18th February, 2019. Around 800 participants including students from DBRAIT, ANIIMS, senior officer of Police Department and other officials of administration attended the workshop. Shri. Dependra Pathak, IPS, Director General of Police, A&N Islands was the Chief Guest of the occasion. The function commenced with observance of one minute silence in remembrance of our brave hearts-CRPF personnel martyred in the Pulwama terror attack. At the outset Shri. Manoj. C, IPS, Superintendent of Police, CID welcomed gathering and briefed about the structure of one week course. The programmed was followed by a skit played by the Police Entertainment Team. Shri. Ashok Bandhopadhyay, Joint Director, CDAC, Hyderabad and Shri. Jagdish Babu, Project Manager, CDAC Hyderabad briefed about CDAC and awareness programme. Shri. Utpal Sharma, Special Secretary (IT) & Principal, DBRAIT, Dollygunj addressed the gathering and discussed about the IT revolution and problem associated with it and congratulated A&N Police for initiating awareness programme on cyber crime. During the inaugural function posters on cyber crime awareness were released by Shri Dependra Pathak, IPS, DGP, A&N Islands.

While addressing the gathering chief guest Shri. Dependra Pathak, IPS highlighted the paradigm shift in information technology and dependence of present world around information technology. He informed about pros and cons of use of IT in our daily life and the importance of adopting cyber hygiene and netiquette. Further, he has visualized different ideas of information and technology being developed, which will be part of our life in near future. He pointed out the necessity of reasonable level of alertness while working under IT framework. He also boosted the morale of the students to be cautious and  knowledgeable in IT field as they are the future of the nation.
