Port Blair, April 15: General Bipin Rawat, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Mrs Madhulika Rawat, President Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA) arrived at Port Blair on a three day visit to Andaman and Nicobar Command (ANC) today. On arrival at INS Utkrosh, General Bipin Rawat was received by Vice Admiral BimalVerma, AVSM, ADC, Commander-in-Chief, Andaman& Nicobar Command (CINCAN).  Thereafter, the COAS left for Cellular Jail for wreath laying ceremony at Amar Jyoti.

The Army Chief, accompanied by President AWWA, also called on Hon’ble Lt Governor Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Admiral DK Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, VSM, NM (Retd). Later, at Headquarter ANC, the General was given an overview on joint services and strategic aspects of the Andaman & Nicobar Command and was briefed on the Army Component’s operational preparedness and amphibious capabilities in the Islands. 

During the course of the visit, the COAS would be visiting the newly raised Territorial Army Battalion at Campbell Bay and Air Force Station Car Nicobar. At both the places he will interact with troops and officers. The General will also inspect Military Station Birchgunj and review its infrastructure and operational areas. He will also be briefed on Naval operations at Naval wharf and familiarized with ANC’s area of operations, during his visit.
