Counting to Begin at 8.00 AM

Port Blair, May 22: All arrangements are complete for the counting of votes tomorrow (May 23) for the polling held in the A&N Islands Parliamentary Constituency (ANIPC) as part of the Parliamentary Election-2019. The Counting Centre JNRM has become the centre of intense activities and the counting related senior officials are busy ensuring all the facilities for the smooth conduct of counting which begins at 8AM tomorrow.

The counting will begin at 8 am with the counting of postal ballots first which will be followed by counting of votes polled in EVMs. Counting of votes will be taken up in two halls i.e JNRM auditorium hall and another hall in the newly constructed building in JNRM. Accordingly, altogether 28 tables have been set up, with each hall having 14 tables. Counting is expected to be completed in 15 rounds. Two Observers, one each in both the counting halls will be present to monitor the entire counting process.

Results of each round will be first uploaded in ‘Suvidha portal’ which can be accessed from any part of the world. Thereafter, results will be announced through loud speakers at the earmarked places at RGT Road, Marina Park and South Point. Results of each round will also be displayed on the screens put up at Netaji Stadium and Counting Centre at JNRM. The results will be intimated to the media persons covering the counting process at the Media Cell established in the Counting Centre at JNRM through the Nodal Officers of Directorate of IP&T who have been assigned duties to co-ordinate with media persons. As per the instructions of the ECI, five VVPAT machines will also be counted after EVMs counting is over. The selection of VVPAT will be done through draw of lots. 

Traffic will be diverted on the day of counting and all roads leading to JNRM i.e from Girls School crossing, RGT road, Machhi Line and Govt. Press will be closed from early morning on May 23, 2019.
