OPDs Shutdown in Andaman, Practicing Doctors Demand Central Rule to Curb Such Attacks

Port Blair, June 17: A junior doctor, Dr Paribaha Mukherjee, was attacked over alleged medical negligence at Kolkata. Doctor Paribaha Mukherjee had suffered a major skull injury when a deceased patient's family assaulted medical staff at Kolkata’s NRS hospital on June 10.

Owing to the brutal attack on Dr. Paribaha, the A&N Islands Private Practicing Doctors Association had shut down all OPD services at Clinics and Hospitals in Port Blair today in the morning for two hours. The doctors assembled at G.B Pant Hospital OPD complex and wore black badges. Later on in the evening a rally was jointly organized by the Indian Medical Association, Port Blair branch from G.B Pant Hospital to Clock tower and back.

However all emergency services were attended too. The ANIPPDA demanded a central rule should be in place, so that such brutal attacks don’t happen in future and stringent punishment should be given to them who resort to such brutal attacks. The Association has also demanded safety of doctors while on duty.
