Port Blair, June 18: A & N Police and State Legal Service Authority (SLSA) jointly conducted sensitization programme on drug abuse and NDPS Act  at Conference Hall, Police Head Quarter on 18.06.19 as a prelude to the observation of international day against drug abuse.The Chief Guest of the programme was Hon’ble Justice Joymalya Bagchi Judge, High Court, Calcutta, Executive Chairman, SLSA and the guest of honour was Hon’ble Justice Abhijit Ganopadhyay, Judge, High Court accompanied by all the judicial lumanaries of A&N Islands.

The welcome speech was given by Shri. Manoj. C, IPS, SP(CID)followed by which Shri. Dependra Pathak, DGP, A&N Islands apprised about the several initiative and action taken by A&N Police to curb the menace of Drug abuse in A&N Islands. The context setting and introduction to the programme was given by Shri. Ajoy Mukherjee, Hon’ble District & Session Judge, wherein he mentioned the various important aspects of NDPS Act and investigation shortcomings which needs to be avoided by police officers for better investigation.

Later, the session was open for interaction, wherein participants raised queries about the investigation of NDPS cases, remedies for various scenarios and clarified their doubts on various sections of NDPS act. 

The concluding remark was passed by the Hon’ble Chief Guest and Guest of Honour  who appreciated the initiative taken by Police and gave important points to be followed by the I.Os during investigation. The programme concluded with vote of thanks by Shri. Vijay Singh, IPS, DIGP (Intelligence).
