Port Blair, June 21: On 16/04/19 a highly decomposed unidentified female dead body was found floating in a well near Industrial Road, Bakultala under the jurisdiction of PS Rangat. The circumstances were suspicious, so a case of murder was registered at PS Rangat. Upon registration of FIR the Rangat Police unit swung into action and started enquiring from the nearby residents one by one. From enquiry it was learnt that since last one week one Anjana Sarkar and her Husband AnimeshMazumdar were missing from the locality. Also the neighbours identified some of the belongings on the body of the deceased as that of Anjana Sarkar. After that, multiple police teams were constituted to trace out the husband of the deceased AnimeshMazumdar. The investigation revealed that AnimeshMazumdar had left for Port Blair on the same night when he was last seen by the neighbours and from there he left for West Bengal. A team of SI Somen Kr. Haldar, ASI Erick John Minj and PC/1316 Akash Ch. Bepari was sent to West Bengal to trace out AnimeshMazumdar, who was now the primary suspect in the matter. The help of West Bengal police was also taken by the team. Based on local intelligence and with the help of West Bengal Police, the team of SI Somen Halder was able to trace the suspect. During interrogation he confessed murdering his wife and disclosed the actual sequence of the events that had occurred. The accused AnimeshMazumdar is now in Judicial Custody. The effort of SI UsmanAli, (SHO/ PS Rangat) and his staff were applauded by the local public representatives who said that arrest of accused in such a heinous case would lead to better trust of public in police. The senior officers also appreciated the efforts of the entire staff of Police Station Rangat and Shri R.K. Sharma, SDPO Rangat for his close supervision in the case. SP District/ N&MA said that the team has done wonderful job in working out the case and will be suitably rewarded.
