Port Blair, July 11: The vision of Transport Department is to provide access to safe and economic public transport till the last mile to the commuters. In its continuous endeavor to promote convenient mobility, the Department always tries to provide mobility to the commuters in the form of Public Transport wherever motorable roads are constructed.

Now the Department has plan to introduce a bus service in the difficult and distant location of Champin Island in Nicobar District from 1/8/2019 especially for the benefit of the tribal villagers of Champin Island with the construction of new all weather motorable road in the Island.

A new STS Unit will be functional in Champin Island, from which bus services in the form of public transport shall begin w.e.f 1/8/2019. STS Unit, Champin would be the 15th STS Unit for the Department. This STS Unit will be functioning under the administrative control of Assistant Commissioner, Nancowry. 

Initially, for operation of buses in Champin Island, one bus and crews along with other required materials shall be diverted from STS Unit, Kamorta.
