Port Blair, July 12: The Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), Andaman & Nicobar Branch has embarked on a programme to develop a pool of skilled manpower as SERV instructors to combat any disasters at community level by imparting training to the volunteers at grass root level. Further the trained SERV instructors to develop preparedness and resilience at the community level by involving active volunteers who could be trained and equipped to respond when any eventualities occurs.

The training programme was inaugurated by Shri.Govind Ram, Director of Disaster Management, A & N Administration who dwelt at length on the importance of trained volunteers especially at grass root level in this territory having difficult topography. He has narrated the development of Disaster Preparedness and Prevention post 2004 Tsunami.    Dr. J.D. Singh, Principal, TGCE was also present at the inauguration.

The Hon. General Secretary, IRCS, A & N Branch, Dr. R.Thulasi Dasan, M.D., welcomed the gathering and the dignitaries present and spoke on the  Red Cross Movement and the objectives of the SERV training. He also told that IRCS is auxiliary to govt. in providing Relief and Rehabilitation when disaster strikes.

05 Days  State Level SERV Instructors Training Programme will be facilitated by eminent resource person Dr. V.L.S. Kumar, Vice Chairmen Karnataka State Branch, who is also National & South Asia Regional Disaster Response Team Member and National Level Trainer on Disaster Management, along with Shri. Suresh Kumar A, Master Trainer of SERV from Tamil Nadu Red Cross Branch & Shri. Chanchal Singha Roy, GTT, who is also a Master Trainer for SERV programme, will be facilitating the training programme. Other Resource Persons are Shri.Venkat Raman, NDRT Member, Shri.Venkateshwar Rao, SDRT Member and Ms. Popi Das, DM Coordinator.
