Indian Coast Guard Evacuates Two Injured Crew Off Port Blair

Port Blair, July 16: TheIndian Coast Guard (ICG) carried out mid sea medical emergency evacuation from Panama registered motor tanker “Da Young” at 1615 hrs on 16 Jul 19. The vessel whilst on planned passage from Hongkong to Vizag reported 02 crew namely Mr. Phyo Thu Khant (Myanmar) and Mr. Samsul Arifin (Indonesia) who suffered from 60 percentage burn injuries due to accidental leakage of steam while undertaking repair work on steam pipe in engine room.

Maritime Rescue Co-ordination Centre, Port Blair had received a telephonic information from Korean Tanker Management Co. Ltd (KTM) requesting for urgent medical evacuation of 02 injured crew from Mt “Da Young”. The vessel was approx. 450 km from Port Blair heading towards Visakhapatnam.

On receipt of information, MRCC, Port Blair launched multifarious swift rescue mission. Master of the vessel was re-directed to proceed with best speed towards Port Blair. In the meanwhile the medical team at MRCC provided regular medical advice to the master and regular update on condition of the patients were undertaken. MRCC, Port Blair liaised with vessel’s local agent and necessary assistance was provided in obtaining from customs/immigration department. Potential search and rescue unit C-428 was immediately deployed from Port Blair harbor for undertaking medical evacuation of the crew.

Indian Coast Guard Ship successfully evacuated injured crew from the vessel and reached Haddo wharf at 1615 hrs on 16 Jul 19. Subsequently, the 02 injured crew were handed over safely to local agent M/s Raj Marine SVC Ltd at Port Blair. Thereafter the patients ware admitted in GB Pant hospital for further specialized medical treatment. 

Such successful SAR mission and immediate evacuation of injured crew has again proved professional acumen and unabated commitment of Indian Coast Guard towards safeguarding precious lives at sea in all spheres of operations befitting with the motto of Indian Coast Guard “Vayam Rakshama - We Protect”.
