Port Blair, Sept. 12: The Poshan Abhiyan is being observed during the month of September 2019. As part of it, the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), Regional Centre Port Blair celebrated Poshan Maah along with Department of Home Science-JNRM, Port Blair as a joint venture on Wednesday 11th September 2019 at its premises.

The students registered for Bridge Programme –Certificate in Community Health for Nurses (BPCCHN), Certificate Food and Nutrition (CFN), Nutrition and Child Care, Diploma in Nutrition and Health Education (DNHE) attended along with the students of Home Science Department registered in JNRM. During the programme, Dr. K. Venkatesan, HOD, Home Science, spoke on the importance of Nutritional Assessment and itsproven role by emphasizing, Anthropometries, Biochemical, Clinical andDiet Survey. Further, Stunting and Wasting need to be weeded onthrough nutritional intervention and right intake of nutrition food, he added. 

Mrs. Nidhi Shekhawat, Assistant Professor, Department of Home Science, JNRM elaborately explained various types of cookingthrough which the quantum of nutrients could be retained. She also spoke on the importance of various nutritive recipes that can beprepared at household level.
