South Andaman Police Takes a Leap Forward

Port Blair, Sept. 18: In order to eradicate the menace of illegal manufacture & sales of illicit liquors and other psychotropic substances from A&N Islands, the South Andaman Police has been perseverant and dedicatedly making efforts to build a drug free and healthy society.

Due to the relentless efforts carried out in the past months, South Andaman Police has registered 1325 Nos. of cases under Excise regulation with a recovery of 2660 Ltrs of IMFL, 159 ltrs of illicit liquor and 4293 kgs of Handia, thereby making its mark on curbing the menace of illicit liquors and spirituous substances under the jurisdictions of South Andaman District.

The A&N Police is also ensuring zero tolerance towards the drug abuse and drug peddlers from the society. Accordingly 70 Nos. of cases under Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act 1985 was registered, arrested more than 80 accused persons and seized 20 kgs of Ganja/Cannabis & 9000 Nos. of Psychotropic drugs/tablets and 532 Codine bottles approximately during existing year.

During the festive season of Ganesh puja, elaborate law & order arrangements was made in the Puja pandals as well as at all immersion points with all safety measures in South Andaman District. A total of 128 idols were immersed in various immersion points without any untoward incident. During this Ganesh Puja festival alone, a total of 213 Nos. of cases under Excise regulation was registered in the South Andaman District and directions of Hon’ble Supreme Court & Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000 with respect to using of loudspeaker in between 06 am to 10 pm were strictly implemented.

The South Andaman Police will work in the same spirit and professionalism in the ensuing Durga puja festival and other forthcoming arrangements thereby ensuring proper implementation of law in A&N Islands. 

All the raids and law & order arrangements took place under the supervision of concerned SHO’s & SDPO’s of South Andaman District under the overall supervision of Shri Manoj. C, Superintendent of Police, South Andaman District.
