Port Blair, Oct. 16: The Department of Home Science, JNRM and Andaman College (ANCOL) in association with the National Institute of Social Defence, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Govt. of India is organising Second-day State level Workshop on Drug Abuse Prevention for ANCOL Students on 15th October 2019.

During the inauguration the Chief Guest Shri. Ravi Kumar Singh IPS, Superintendent of Police (CID), Andaman & Nicobar Police, while addressing the gathering spoke in detail about the NDPS Act through  power point presentation. This was followed by an interactive session with students. Students with courage should say “NO” to drugs and educate their counterparts, he opined. 

Professor  (Dr) K.S. Pushpa, Dean, Student Affairs, Gandhigram Rural Institute, Gandhigram, the Guest of honour on the occasion expressed that drugs not only affect physical and mental life of an individual but also affect the family and society. Youths are our county’s wealth and they have enormous potential, which should be utilized properly.

Ms. Jochibed Vincent, Principal I/c, JNRM, welcomed the gathering and informed the audience that drug abuse is a menace for humanity and should be eliminated at any cost. Dr. K.Venkatesan, HOD, Homescience and Convener of this programme thanked NISD for supporting JNRM Home Science Department to enlighten the students on the ill effects of drugs.

At the end of the programme, Dr. N. Lakshmi, Assistant  Professor and Co-Convener of the programme proposed vote of thanks and moderated the programme. 

Four technical sessions were handled by Professor (Dr) K.S. Pushpa, Dr. Avijit Roy, Deputy Director (Health), Directorate of Health Services, and Dr. K. Venkatesan, HoD, Home Science. Altogether around 100 students participated in this programme.
