Port Blair, Oct. 17: Community Food and Nutrition Extension Unit (CFNEU), Port Blair organised a workshop at Atam Pahad to celebrate World food Day 2019, today. Around 40 Anganwadi workers and local residents participated in the workshop.

Speaking on the occasion, Demonstration Officer, CFNEU Anil Kumar Dhiman highlighted the importance of food in human life.  “Food is an important constituent of our life and it is directly related to good health. Overeating or less-eating may lead to various deficiencies in human body, he said. 

Shri Dhiman informed the gathering about the importance of intake of green leafy vegetables and seasonal fruits to combat deficiencies of micronutrients like iron, vitamins etc.  “Intake of balance diet provides human body with adequate amount of protein, fat, vitamins and minerals essential for proper physical and mental growth of human body”, he emphasised.

Discussing the importance of World Food Day, Demonstration Officer pressed upon the need to change the food habits and agriculture practices to improve the production and productivity of food grains to cater to the growing population.”Adopting sustainable agriculture and food practices are important for ensuring food security and #ZeroHunger world by 2030”, he added. A quiz contest on nutrition and health was also organised on the occasion. 

The theme of World Food Day 2019 is “Our Actions Are Our Future. Healthy Diets for A #ZeroHunger World". CFNEU operates under Food and Nutrition Board of Ministry of Woman and Child Development.
