Port Blair, Dec 2: TheFirst Shaheed Sub Inspector Sanjeev Memorial Volleyball Tournament was inaugurated by SP Nicobar Shri Rajeev Kumar in the presence of DySP Ashok Vishnoi and SHO Car Nicobar at BJR Stadium, Car Nicobar. This tournament is being played in two age categories Senior Open and Junior. Total 16 teams are participating in the junior category. First Match was played between Govt. Senior School, Mus and Govt. Senior Secondary School, Lapathy and which was won by GSSS, Lapathy.

This tournament is being organised under the aegis of All A&N State Volleyball Association and A&N State Olympic Association and being supported by Nicobar Police under the “Yuva” initiative of A&N Police. The tournament will be basis for further selection of players for State and National level. 

The SP Nicobar during his inaugural speech told the gathering about the supreme sacrifice made by Martyr SI Sanjeev of A&N Police while trying to save the lives of citizens caught in the rising waters of the Tsunami of 2004. He was awarded the Kirti Chakra posthumously for his act of valour. He also reiterated the commitment of Nicobar police in promoting the immense sports talent in the Nicobar District with the support of various sports associations and district administration.
