Lauds Students for Showcasing Their Scientific Temperament Through Working Models & Projects

 

Port Blair, Dec 12: The two-day State Level Exhibition ‘Gyanodaya- 2019-20’, organized by the Department of Education, A&N Administration in collaboration with the Department of Education in Science and Mathematics (DESM), NCERT, New Delhi got underway with its inauguration by the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Shri Chetan B. Sanghi, as the chief guest in the auditorium of Govt. Girls’ Sr. Sec. School this morning. The Secretary, Education, Smti Kriti Garg, Director, Education, Shri Kamlesh Kumar, Senior officers of the Education Department, Principals, teachers and participating students from nine Educational Zone of the Islands were present on the occasion.

In his inaugural address, the Chief Secretary remarked that he was very impressed by the quality of some of the models/projects on display, making a special mention of the model on ‘Data transmission on LED’. He further stated that despite the fact that not too many students have access to internet connectivity here in the Islands, they have been able to come up with such interesting projects and their knowledge on the subject is appreciable. Once the facility of good internet connectivity and technology is made available to them in the coming days, they will be benefited to a large extent and their efforts in understanding the way the world works will be catalyzed in multiple ways, the Chief Secretary said. Their thinking process and the projects they have attempted in working out solutions will get a major boost, he added. 

Lauding the students for their enthusiasms and proficiency in English while explaining the working of their projects, the Chief Secretary congratulated the teachers for honing their communication skills. He further directed the Education Secretary and her team to ensure that the projects that are worthy of being supported, are further refined, so that students representing the Islands at the National Level Exhibition are able to present their ideas in a more organized manner.

The Chief Secretary further remarked that some of the working models displayed by the students may be scaled up a bit and put on display at Science Centre and Atal Tinkering Lab, for a year while some of the models presented by the students may be given exposure in the local cable channel, for the interest of the larger audience, which will also be an encouragement for the students. He also complimented the Education Department and the teachers for organizing the exhibition in a well planned manner.

The Chief Secretary also released the souvenir of ‘Gyanodaya-2019’ during the inaugural function. The Chief Secretary and other dignitaries went round the exhibition and evinced keen interest in the models on display. He also interacted with the students and enquired about the functioning of their models and lauded their talents.

Earlier, welcoming the gathering, the Secretary Education, Smt. Kriti Garg said the objective of organizing this exhibition is to provide the opportunity for young minds to create something new and showcase their talent and potential and inculcate in them, scientific temperament. The inaugural programme culminated with the vote of thanks proposed by the Director of Education, Shri Kamlesh Kumar.

As many as 106 models made by the students from 9 Educational Zones of A&N Islands are on display at the exhibition along with selected projects from the Zonal Level Exhibitions. Other attractions outside the auditorium include Science and Technology Communication through Puppetry, explaining Science behind Magic, explaining Geometry, understanding Physics and learning of Mathematics by using low cost teaching aids, and receptive of origami. The exhibition will also remain open for students from 9 am to 1 pm tomorrow (Dec 13).
