Port Blair, Jan 22: Central Integrated Pest Management Centre (CIPMC), Port Blair organized Integrated Pest Management Training & Demonstration Programme under Farmers’ Field School on Rabi Vegetables recently at Kadamttala Panchayat Hall and Uttara Panchayat Hall. The objective of the program was to create awareness about the Integrated Pest Management (IPM) practices as substitute to the use of chemical Pesticides & Fertilizers in vegetable crops.

Addressing the inaugural function, Sh. G.S. Giri Plant Protection Officer (PP) discussed the problems arising in cultivation of vegetable after the banning of chemical pesticides and fertilizers in the islands and informed the gathering how to address them by adopting IPM practices.

Sh. Vivek kant Gupta, Assistant Plant Protection Officer discussed various components of IPM practices i.e. cultural, mechanical, biological & need based use of chemical application and urged the farmers to attend the training class every week. 

Sh. Sukhlal Mondal Gram Pradhan, Kadamttla Gram Panchayat and Smt. Sarswati Bawali, Gram Pradhan, Uttara Gram Panchayat were present as Chief Guest in the programmes organized in their respective panchayat area. They welcomed CIPMC, Port Blair for conducting such eco-friendly programme in their area and urged the farmers to take full advantage of this programme.

Smt. Gulshan Bibi,  Agriculture Assistant, Kadamttla and Utara, Sh. T.V. Mohan, Chief Cahirman, Kadamttla Gram Panchayat, Shri Abadul Hamid, AFA, Kadamtala, State Agri. Dept.,  Ahjay Kumar Sahu, AFA Uttara State Agri. Dept, Sh. Paritosh Mondal, Sarpanch Uttara Gram Panchayat were also present during the inaugural programme.
