Port Blair, Jan 23: Indian Coast Guard Region (A&N) is conducting various events for the local populace of the Islands to commemorate 44th Coast Guard Raising Day. As a part of the celebrations, an Inter-School Quiz competition – 2020 (“Q-Riosity”) was conducted for the school students of class VIII to XII on 23 Jan 2020 at Indoor Sports Complex ‘Spectrum’, Haddo, Port Blair. Brig (Dr.) SB Mahajan, (Retd.), Dean Academics, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Institute of Medical Science graced the event as Chief Guest. The Commanding Officers and Officers-in-Charges of Coast Guard ships and establishments based at Port Blair were also present at the event. The ladies of Coast Guard Wives Welfare Association (CGWWA) also witnessed the event to encourage the children towards pursuit of knowledge. The motive of the competition was to enhance the general awareness, scientific temper and inquisitiveness among the students as well as to promote ICG as a career option for the future citizens of India. The event marked a very high level of enthusiasm and zeal among the student community of Port Blair to participate in CG activities.

A total of five schools participated in the competition. Team of Navy Children School comprising Master Rishab Jha (11th Standard) and Master Lalit Mohan (9th Standard) were adjudged the winners and Team of Mahatma Gandhi International School comprising Miss Kavya (9th Standard) and Miss Uditaa (9th Standard) were declared the runner’s up in the competition. Trophies, medals and certificates of merit were awarded to the winning team and the runner’s up by the Chief Guest and DIG Mukul Garg, Chief of Staff, Coast Guard Region (A&N), respectively. The Chief Guest congratulated all students for participating and exhorted all the students to work in the right earnest in pursuit of knowledge and excellence.
