Port Blair, Feb.14: A UT Level Census Coordination Committee meeting was convened under the Chairmanship of the Chief Secretary, A & N Administration, Shri Chetan B Sanghi in the conference hall of Secretariat on Feb.13, 2020. 

Issues pertaining to the upcoming Census of India, 2021 and Updation of National Population Register (NPR) were discussed with the various stakeholders and valuable inputs and suggestions were received. The Census of India will commence with House listing and Housing Operations (HLO) and the updation of National Population Register (NPR) from 1st April to 15th May 2020 in A&N Islands. This shall be followed by Population Enumeration (PE) during 9th –28th February 2021. For the first time, mixed mode approach of data collection will be adopted in the Census 2021. The data will be collected by either smart phone based mobile app or through paper schedule.

Further, the decision was taken to ensure the availability of employees engaged in the census activities as per schedule for smooth conduct of Census 2021 in A&N Islands. 

The committee will work to establish the required cooperation and coordination between the departments related to UT government in both the phases of census activities, so that the work is conducted smoothly without any issue.
