Administration Needs to Ensure the Safety of Frontline Health Workers who Risk their Lives

Port Blair, March 29: The number of COCID-19 Positive Cases continue to remain at 9 today with no new cases added. There has been a rumour that a 34 year old male, employed at Junior Engineer who was brought dead to the GB Pant Hospital had shown symptoms of COVID-19. Health officials clear that the person had symptoms of Jaundice as per the report and not COVID-19.  However the samples have been sent to the RMRC to clear the doubts.

Meanwhile, sources inform that the safety gears for health workers dealing with COVID-19 may not be sufficient for the long run and may exhaust in a couple of week. It is also being noticed that the frontline health workers who are risking their lives to protect the islanders are subjected to manhandling and misbehaviour by none other than the insensitive officials of the Andaman & Nicobar Administration. One such case was reported opposite Netaji Stadium today wherein a DANICS Officer is said to have manhandled the driver of the frontline health official. While condemning the act of the officials, Andaman Chronicle hopes that the issue will be taken up seriously by the senior officers in the Administration who are also to ensure that the safety gears for the health workers reach the Islands ahead of time, especially considering the severity of the situation.
