Port Blair, May 1: Along with rest of India, INTUC, A&N Islands observed the Labour Day as May Day today under the leadership of its President, Kuldeep Rai Sharma. More than six thousands workers of all the thirty six unions affiliated to INTUC participated to commemorate the sacrifice and struggle of the Trade Union workers made over the years for upliftment and betterment of working class people and to demonstrate the unity.

A procession was started from Gandhi Bhavan to Gandhi Statue where Sharma garlanded the statue of Mahatma Gandhi and lead the procession that passed through Clock Tower to Atul Smrity Samity and back to Gandhi Bhavan.

Beside many others, Shri Hamid Ali, Shri Gyan Prakash Krishna, Shri Mariam Bibi, Shri Usman, Shri Aboobacker, and Shri Rafique spoke on the occasion. May day was also celebrated by the workers affiliated to INTUC at Havelock, Mayabunder, Rangat, Hutbay, Campbell Bay etc.

Meanwhile the DMK, A&N Islands today organised a grand May Day procession, which began from its office at Kalingar Arivalayam, Mohanpura. The procession passed through Clock Tower, State Library and Bengali Club junction before culminating at Kalingar Arivalayam. More than three thousand party workers participated in the procession, including women.
