Port Blair, May 1: In his letter addressed to the Lt Governor, the State President, Shri Vishall Jolly while quoting the recent instructions issued by the Supreme Court regarding compulsory appearance in the National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET) to seek nomination against Central Pool MBBS/ BDS seats conducted by the CBSE, has requested to issue necessary directions to the Education Department to give proper guidance and coaching to the students intending to opt for not only MBBS/ BDS courses but also for AIEEE and JEE etc. for Engineering seats in various disciplines right from class IX. This may be done by the subject teachers viz. Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology to the students in their respective schools through special coaching. To meet this end, special honorarium may be sanctioned for the teacher engaged for the cause, he stated.

The students of the islands lack the appropriate coaching facilities for appearing in such examinations. Whatever facilities exist, are available with the students of Port Blair and fetches a student about Rs. 4.50 lakhs which can never be a cup of tea for everyone, he said. He has also mentioned the remoteness of the islands from mainland as well as within the islands that keeps the students not at par with the mainland students.
