Ministry Agrees to Open New Sub Health Centres in Remote Areas of the Islands

Port Blair, May 7: Responding to the demand raised by the Member of Parliament Shri Bishnu Pada Ray, the Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Shri Ghulam Nabi Azad has agreed to set up new Sub-Health Centres in the remote areas of the Islands, based on the norms of “Time to Care”.

Communicating the decision through his letter addressed to Shri Ray, the Minster said that the Administration has been asked to send the list of such remote areas to ministry at earliest.  Azad also said that the new Sub Health Centres will be set up within 30 minutes of walk from the habitation, to make them accessible for the people living in the remote areas of Islands.

It is noteworthy that Shri Bishnu Pada Ray had written a letter to the Minister on 28th February requesting him to set up new sub health centres in the remote villages, as the people are suffering due to the unavailability of the health facilities.

While at Delhi Ray had met Shri Azad many times and had also requested him to appoint the unemployed 300 GNM Nurses to utilize their services in these Centres.

Expressing his happiness over the development Shri Bishnu Pada Ray told over phone that this decision of the Ministry has brought smiles on the faces of the people of deprived areas of the Islands. Similarly long wait of the unemployed trained Nurses will end soon with this decision.
