Port Blair, May 13: Responding to the demand raised by the Member of Parliament under Rule 377 in the Lok Sabha on 5th March 2013 regarding implementation of the decision taken in the 10th Island Development Authority (IDA) meeting regarding construction of Fish Landing Jetties (FLJS) in A&N Islands by the ALHW related to the Ministry, the Minister of Shipping, GoI has informed the MP on 29th April 2013 that out of total of 19 Fish Landing Centres proposed for construction by the Administration, 4 FLJs at Junglighat, Rangat, Mayabunder and Diglipur have been completed and one FLJ at Yeratta is nearing completion.

Sanction has been given by the A&N Administration for construction of another seven FLJs located one each at Uttara, Havelock, Neil Island, Panighat, Guptapara, New Wandoor and Kamorta islands. The executing authority ALHW has already initiated the tendering process for award of the contract of construction of these FLJs.

Expressing his happiness over the development, Shri Ray stated that after construction of all FLJs, the economical growth will be faster in the Islands and smiles will come on the faces of the deprived areas of Islands.
